DeLamielleure Peddling to Mexico

Fourth and Goal Board Member Personifies Passion

Even though he’s now in his 50′s, challenges are nothing new for Hall of Famer Joe DeLamielleure. After all this is the same guy who played three positions on the field and was known as one of the fiercest blockers that’s ever played the game. There’s also that stint in the Arena League…when he was in his 40′s. To know Joe D is to know passion and it’s his passion for abandoned, abused and neglected children that will lead him toward what could be the most physically challenging feat of his life.

On April 25, DeLamielleure will join former Michigan State teammates John Shinsky and Eljay Bowron in East Lansing, Michigan to begin a bike ride that will end at an orphanage in Matamoros, Mexico. The purpose of the ride is to raise much needed money to complete construction and provide necessary resources to support abandoned, abused and neglected children of that region.

The bike tour will total over 2,000 miles over an 18 day span.

“I’m really passionate about helping the underdog, trying to help people that can’t help themselves,” DeLamielleure said. “And these kids can’t help themselves. It’s impossible. So if we can make life better for them and get them educated and feed them and make them feel like better human beings, then I’m all for it.”
