Smith (finally) answers our call

We’ve phoned him multiple times over the past month, D. Smith hasn’t  answered. He called us out in an Associated Press article on Saturday saying our organization should join his cause in asking the NFL for financial information. We answered today by making yet another call this morning to thank him for giving us a national shout out. This time, Mr. Smith answered! After a brief conversation he agreed to speak with us further about the issues of retired players but not until he’s completed his barnstorming tour of NFL cities in late June. So maybe he’ll ask us over for some burgers and dogs to celebrate the Fourth of July?

But before we buy the mustard and bottle rockets we’ve got some serious issues to discuss with Mr. Smith and his union. Issues that must be addressed with action and not words. Central to these issues will be our request for the union to open their books and let retired players see how the NFLPA is spending money given to them for retired player benefits. We believe what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. So if Mr. Smith expects us to back his efforts in mandating the league open the books, he must first open his.
