It's now quite evident, despite all the bravado that both the NFL and NFLPA boasted regarding our "generous"Legacy Fund benefit, pre 93' retirees were swept the crumbs from the league's multi billion dollar largesse. Our union bragged that they fought for an annual 62 million dollar allocation for the Legacy Fund over next ten year's. However, factoring in this figure to the NFL's projected 8.5 to 9 billion dollar income for 2012, 62 million is less than 3/4 of 1% of this income. Hardly a king's ransom. It's inspiring to see Sylvia Mackey and Mary Hilgenberg fighting for the rights of widow's of vested pre 93' retirees to be included in Legacy Fund benefits. Super Bowl week offers the opportunity for dialogue to widows like Mrs. Mackey and Mrs. Hilgenberg to speak up on behalf of the widows of deceased vested players and the lack of respect they were afforded by both the NFL and NFLPA by excluding them from recently allocated funds. DeMaurice Smith said it would cost an additional $28 million to include widows of deceased vested retirees. However, if you factor this figure into 9 billion dollars, it is a mere pittance to the NFL's ever growing ATM machine.

Good piece of work. No one leaves this war game not in some way permanently damaged. As the CBA assigns a percent of the League revenues to stadium building a percentage of League revenues should be set aside to pay for lifetime medical insurance for former players. The NFL is now a $10 Billion business built on the backs of all former players. Football, particularly NFL football is physical violence personified. It cannot be reformed or made safer. As our number one mass spectator sport generating billions in revenues the obligation of the NFL owners and NFLPA is to provide real and adaquate care for the men who play it. The money is there, is there the will.

I am a little miffed with the logic used in calculating the legacy fund. I waited until I was 65 to start payments to take advantage of the larger benefit and now that the benefits are being sent out the same multiplier does not apply. But had I retired in 87 instead of 77 and waited until I was 65 the multplier used, I believe it is 2.4, to calculate benefits would apply to the legacy benefit. What is the logic behind this?

I have been thinking of this situation with the widows of former players as it relates to the Legacy Fund. I believe it is disgraceful for this to be even a consideration of excluding them. According to all of the emails I have read, it seems that they (NFL) are only committing 1/2 0f the total money in the fund to give to retired players, thereby leaving the other 1/2 for God know what. It seems the least they could do is allocate an amount of the "unused" funds to the widows of former players who were already getting some pension through the original Bert Bell Retirement Fund. Why not give them the same percentage of their entitled Legacy fund pension that they were receiving from the original fund? If the original amount was 50% after death of their husband, they would get 50% as if he were still with us. This was an election each couple made originally and it would seem fair to anyone with a brain that that same election made then, should continue for their widow. It is a TEAM Sport! I wish the NFLPA and the NFL would act like it!

Sounds like we have a clone of Upshaw. How the hell did the morons at the head hunting firm miss the background check info? Did they get paid for their fine work? How many Martin relatives are working at the Alumni offices? How about an audit of activities since he took over? At the rate he is going, he too will have a building named after him, just like Upshaw, my former team mate.

Jeff- I just received news last night that my old Bronco teammate Mike Current tragically passed away in Oregon on Sunday. Mike was Denver's 3rd round draft choice in the 67' common draft out of Ohio State and played 13 years in the NFL. He was one of the first giant OT's in the NFL at 6-4, 275#. For obvious reasons Mike's nickname was rhino. He will be sadly missed.

I am reaching out to you regarding organizations that serve former NFL players. The NFL Player Engagement office and Player Development at the club level, me, are trying to assist players as well.

1. What is it that NFL Players have indicated they need? What do they want?
2. What services or benefits do they utilize?
3. What's the make-up of who they're servicing, current former players or pre 1993 former players? It's understood the make-up of the players can vary.

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule!
