  1. Robert Bloomberg says:

With the NFL in “fine happy” mode, the NFL should designate the collected fines to go to a foundation such as yours to provide relief to legacy players that are in need. This would be an excellent PR move for the NFL in building good will towards those that built the league and not just enrich the league with funds that would eventually flow back to the owners.

  5. Erma Lockhart says:

    Bruce,

I must thank Fourth and Goal in general and you, Jim Morris, and John Hogan in particular for your committment to the cause of retired NFL players. As the widow of a former NFL player (Carl “Spider” Lockhart – NY Giants 1965-1976), I feel especially blessed to have been introduced to you.

The road one must travel post-NFL is precarious at best. When I lost my way on this road, you were there without hesitation to assist and point me in the right direction. John freely advised me with his vast legal expertise, and Jim Morris is an incredible facilitator.

Having said that, it was the expediency, the warmth, the love, and the care of your rescue that will remain with me forever. I feel that I have you as friends for life, and you can certainly depend on me to reciprocate your kindness and expeditiousness when Fourth and Goal calls.

Please keep doing what you are doing. I pray that the rest of us (Retired players and families)will recognize your good works and unhesitatingly reach out to Fourth and Goal to assist in fulfilling its causes.

    Love ya,

    Erma Lockhart

    • Stephen Grooms says:

Mrs Lockhart, Spider played preseason game in San Diego and I was just a kid. Everyoneon the bus passed by us as we wanted autographs. Your husband stopped and spent a couple of minutes with us, it has been 41 years and I still remember it. He was a nice person, he chatted and shook our hands. Very cool, never forgot it. I wanted you to know that.

      • Erma Lockhart says:

        Mr. Grooms:

Thank you for sharing those wonderful memories with me because I never get tired of hearing about how my husband touched a life in a positive way by simply taking a moment in time.

Carl, indeed, was a remarkable person on and off the football field, and I feel totally blessed to have lived 23 years with such a loving, caring person.

        Warm Regards,

        Erma Lockhart

  6. Cindy Burns says:

I am writing to see if you need any help with your upcoming fundraiser. I would love to help in some capacity.

When I worked for the United Way of Central Maryland, I served as campaign coordinator for the Maryland Charity Campaign. It was through my work there that I met, and became friends with, Lenny Moore. What an eyeopener when I learned the real story behind the glory of the professional football I grew up watching. Go Baltimore Colts!!!

Seriously, it is heartbreakiing and outrageous that the players had nothing beyond the check they received for playing and the other jobs they had to work in the off season. I would never have imagined that the glory and fame was the only payoff for the players. That’s a simplistic take on it, but the gist is there.

I still stay in touch with Lenny and Edie. I can think of no better way to honor and show my respect for them than to help with your endeavor.

Please let me know if I can help in some way.

    Take care,

    Cindy Burns

    • Cindy:

      • Cindy Burns says:

No, Jeff. I did not get a response, but I would appreciate the opportunity to help. Maybe there is something I can do from my end to assist you on yours.

  17. Dear Fourth and Goal Unites,

We are a hyperbaric medical research institute that is preparing a study on professional players (retired or active) that have been diagnosed with concussions and are still suffering from these injuries. Recent work on traumatic brain injury has revealed that sport concussion sufferers may benefit from hyperbaric oxygen treatment. We are trying to establish a relationship with organizations that may be able to help us in recruiting and identifying potential candidates. We are located in the state of Washington (Issaquah) and we will soon have a facility in California (Loma Linda).

Please visit our website and contact me if you have any questions or interest:

I am reaching out to you regarding organizations that serve former NFL players. The NFL Player Engagement office and Player Development at the club level, me, are trying to assist players as well.

    1. What is it that NFL Players have indicated they need? What do they want?
    2. What services or benefits do they utilize?
    3. What’s the make-up of who they’re servicing, current former players or pre 1993 former players? It’s understood the make-up of the players can vary.

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule!
